Included in the McCall 1738 french boudoir doll costumes pattern are three costumes and organdie underwear. The underwear is to be trimmed with Valenciennes lace.
These costumes are designed to fit a French boudoir doll (30 inches long with 10½-inch chest measurement). This type of doll was bought in almost any department store or novelty shop in the 1920’s. High-heeled shoes and silk hose may also be bought or stockings can easily be made from discarded ones.
Costume A as shown in the illustration is made of organdie trimmed with velvet ribbon ¼-inch wide and blue cornflowers. The cream-colored straw hat can be bought and trimmed with ribbon and flowers.
Costume B as shown in the illustration is developed in changeable taffeta with cream lace 7 inches wide and lace insertion 2 inches wide. Ribbon ruffling ½-inch wide and pink silk rose buds may be bought by the yard.
Costume C as shown in the illustration is developed in flowered and plain colored taffeta trimmed with small pearls and ribbon ¾-inch wide. The pattern for the taffeta hat is included and should be trimmed with ostrich feathers, ribbon, and small pearls. A matching pearl necklace completes the costume.
