Janie and Johnny, the blond girl and boy twins are the cutest ever. See their bright young eyes, their soft, slim bodies, their wool wigs! Not a bit of trouble to make no separate arms or legs, but two-piece bodies, back and front cut exactly alike, and stitched around with one continuous seam. Each doll has a cute little sailor suit and a set of play clothes. Patterns and directions are also included for making their clever little shoes and socks.

The dolls and their clothes are small and can be made from leftover scraps of materials. The flesh-colored bodies illustrated were made of percale. Unbleached muslin is also an excellent material to use for the body. You may use it in its natural color, or tint it a delicate flesh color. After the body has been cut out, you stamp and embroider the face, then stitch and stuff the body. The next step is to make the wig, using embroidery wool or other wool about the weight of four-fold Germantown.

Select from your scrap bag the suitable materials for the garments. Percale, chambray, or gingham may be used for the shirt (View A) and for the dress, hat, and panties (View B). Be sure to choose a material with a small design. The dress and hat are trimmed with a fine rick rack braid. The overalls and sailor suits can be made of materials such as rayon gabardine, very fine piqué, percale, or very fine woolen materials. The white shirts can be made of cotton broadcloth, percale, gingham or poplin. The red collars are trimmed with three rows of machine stitching.
